I started planning TF's 40th birthday, last year...I had big plans! A huge party, with lots of friends, lots of food...even the theme was sorted. That was until TF mentioned that what he really wanted, was a small thing, with just a few close friends at home. I will admit, I was a little disappointed. But, after much discussion...I agreed...just not to having it at home. I was going to make sure that it would be a special night.
And it turned out, just like that. It was everything I hoped it would be and more. I found the most perfect venue, we invited our closest family and friends...and spent the evening celebrating my hubby, our family and our friends. Here are a few hundred pics...
I cannot describe to you, how perfect this venue was. I found out about Zieties through a colleague of mine, who knows that I am always looking for awesome new places around Joburg...especially those ones with a view of our city.
The guest house, is owned by the legendary Elzabe Zietsman. Her and her entire staff were amazing...from my very first email to them...till the time we walked out the door. The guest house is incredible, the view over Joburg...amazing.
The awesome thing about Zieties, is that you have no idea what will be served for dinner. Elzabe and her team, head out to the markets and whatever is fresh and available they buy. Needless to say, the food was amazing, every single course.
What made it extra special, is that each course is served with a little story...either about where the food comes from, where the recipe is from, or tidbits about Elzabe's history. Elzabe is such a brilliant hostess...and a highlight of the evening was her singing 'Happy Birthday' to TF.
Oh my goodness...did I stumble, stutter and cry my way through my speech...it was ridiculous really...way to many emotions that night. Even though we were there to celebrate TF, I really wanted to take the opportunity to thank each and every person around the table, and to tell them what they meant to TF and I. I so hope that got it.
I also asked TF's family in New Zealand to write a letter to him, and each one of them did...and I sneakly asked three of our guests to read them out for me...
And of course, these people are what the evening was all about...
It was the most perfect evening...it was intimate and just so special...we loved every single second of it, and I am so glad that I was able to do this for him...he deserves it.
