Boxing Day.

Growing up, Boxing Day was just as a big a deal as Christmas Day was. I loved Boxing Day. I have so many memories, of my entire family...Aunts, Uncles, my Grandparents and cousins getting up early in the morning...packing umbrellas, deck chairs, left over food from Christmas Day, braai stuff and heading out to Beachview in Port Elizabeth. We had to get there early to get the best spot....do you remember those concrete benches and tables at all the picnic spots?

And we would camp there for the whole day. My Aunt Sarie would bake vetkoek for breakfast, I can still taste them now. The cricket commentary would blaring from the car radios. We would swim all day, play cricket on the grass, catch fish in the rockpools, collect shells. I love those memories...they just feel like yesterday.

This Boxing Day, we had no real plans, other than to take it easy. I did have an extra gammon in the freezer, so we decided to cook that. And then sometime during Christmas Day, we decided to invite the BFF's over...

I love it when my friends pop around unplanned...when we eat whatever we have in the cupboards, no make-up is required, when we kick off our shoes and curl up on the couches and just talk, laugh...I even think a few tears were shed that night. It's nights like these that make life what it is...
This Boxing Day, will go down in my memory bank along with those that I grew up...it was nothing fancy...it was just simply a very special night...

Lovely pics. :) What candle is that?

I don't know the Colonial candles. But I do know the sparkling cinnamon candle from Yankee is divine. Cinnamon is my absolute favourite scent. Yankee also made a Christmas candle but the scent was a bit too subtle.

Lovely pics. Growing up, our boxing days were similar to yours. I don't really do that with my kids though, can't manage with crowded beaches. Now we have a day of swimming and leftovers and maybe a dinner braai at my cousins house. Didn't make it this year though. We were just too lazy.
