A little bit of downtown Jozi.

The company I work for, is situated in the Joburg CBD. Having worked here since 1998, I have seen the city centre slowly and sadly degenerate. A lot of big businesses moved north towards Sandton, but there were a number who have stuck it out. And over the years, I have grown to love the Joburg CBD, it's a city that is very close to my heart...it has the potential to truly become amazing.

And thankfully, over the past few years {actually longer}, there has been a massive rejuvenation of the inner city. The sidewalk cafes are back, parks are been replanted, magnificent old buildings are being converted into loft apartments, rooftop bars, and markets are opening up over the weekends...there is so much going on.

Today, we took a walk through the streets, and I clicked away with me cell phone...and seen as though a  lot of people don't come to the CBD, I thought would share a few of them.

This is just a small sliver of what life is like on Main Street in downtown Jozi, during working hours...
Not too bad for a city, that was once seen as a lost cause...and it's getting better each and every day.

I love, love, love this city...and cannot wait for what the future holds.

You know what I love best? Your passion for South Africa. There are SO many negative people out there (a lot of our mutual readers too) that are so quick to point out the bad of SA.

I love this country and love how you highlight even the smallest instances of how great it is!

Great pics and I must say i'm impressed - i haven't been to downtown Jozi for a LONG time and it is looking divine x

I used to catch the bus home from Parktown when I was in high school, and loved taking a ride through the cbd on the way home. I have always loved downtown Jozi and it makes me happy to see business moving back. I will have to take a look when I am home in Dec.

Love the photos. In 1998 I worked in Braamfontein and I remember how bad some areas looked. It is good to know things are getting much better!

I love, love LOVE the Jhb CBD. I spent 6 very happy years there...

Now I've recently been allocated a new client who I see at their offices in Main Street. I drive by your building on the way.

Are you strict with times for lunch? Otherwise, next time I'm around, we should have a coffee/ lunch in the area.

Also, did you get my email about 29th or 30th? (if not, do one of those days work for you for supper?)

I love the city too! If circumstances were different I would happily buy one of those new lofts in Joburg CBD, unfortunately it's not ideal with kids.

Next week Thursday we plan to go to Arts On Main Night Market...can't wait :)
