Freedom Day

17 years ago today, I lined up with my fellow South Africans, to vote in our first democratic elections. I remember that day like it was yesterday...memories that I well never, ever forget. We've come such a long way, been through so much...and even though we still have a long way to go...I am very proud of us.

So of course we get the day off to celebrate...

And what do we do...we hit Hooters!
That's right folks... of all places...Hooters! They've been in South Africa for nearly a year now, and we hadn't been.
Needless to say we had some very happy husbands...*scoring major wife points we are*
All jokes aside...we had such an awesome time.

The food is incredible...not so healthy, but, oh so good. On our menu: Curley Fries, Onion Rings, Buffalo Shrimp, Chicken Strips, Buffalo Wings, Ranch Dressing, Tater Tots.
Needless to say, this girl who adores good' ol American food....was in heaven. And yes...so were our husbands...
Such a fun way to spend our public holiday...we will so definitely be going back!
Happy Freedom Day South Africa!

PS. I am loving Google's doodle today, in celebration of our Freedom Day...

I also remember those elections well, because I'd just turned 18 three months earlier - so they were my first elections too. I still remember the long queue, and looking up and seeing the new SA flag flying for the first time. It was weird, but good weird. (Those onion rings...ohmiword...)

OMG ... i feel a heart attack coming on just looking at that food but it sure does look delish!

I remember that day so clearly ... I didn't get to vote cos I was only 17 but I did get to visit the poll booths cos my parents volunteered. Definitely a memorable time for our country.

I remember those election so well. I was still in Primary school. It was scary times - stories running high of civil war etc.
I've not been to Hooters before. Look like a cool place to visit though.
