This blog.

Way back, when I first started this blog, we had just moved to Cape Town, and I thought starting a blog was a great way to stay in touch with the family and friends back in Joburg, as well as our family across the world. So, the plan was to just use it as a place to upload photo's and keep everyone updated on the goings on in our life...

But then I discovered this whole little blogging community, and got sucked in...

And I loved it.

Only problem was...

I was suddenly feeling the pressure to only post interesting things and talk about things that matter etc...

So for most of last year and beginning of this year, I rarely blogged, worrying that I didn't have anything clever or funny to post...and I missed it.

So, I am going back to why i originally started this blog...its about my life...my everyday life. I am planning on printing a hard copy of this blog every year and keeping it as a journal/album. So, I want to capture the normal stuff, the photo's of what we do...

So, what I am actually trying to say is...sorry, I might be boring you all from now on...and I completely understand....but I need to keep this little space of mine for me...for the normal stuff...

I will though, try my utmost not to bore you too much...

Hayley, we all blog for different reasons. ANd the worst reason to blog is to try and keep all of us happy - you need to be happy with your space and it's contents - bugger what the rest of us think!!

I love your blog - i love the way you write and i love the peek into your life.

So don't stop!

Oh, and interestingly enough - i also started to blog as a way to keep my family and friends posted on my life on the farm - and yet they never read it? Go figure!

Dearest Hayley,
I completely understand what you mean! As a new kid on the block, I sometimes feel this pressure too, especially if I look at all the really awesome blogs out there! But then I just go back and remember my original intention - to create a space where I can just be myself, talk about the things I love and thats really important to ME!
I, for one, love your blog and I find it honest and really adorable!
Please keep on blogging, for us, who really like your blog just the way it is!!!!

Whatever you do ... DO NOT try your utmost TO PLEASE your readers. That alone is a sure fire way to stop blogging!! LOL

Glad you are back Hayley!

Perish the thought. I love your blog. I miss my home and you bring a bit of Benoni to me every time you write.

Hales, write your blog, for YOU. Not for anyone else. Don't 'write for your audience'. Think about how successful the Pioneer Woman is - and she NEVER blogs anything particularly earth shattering. I mean ALL she does is talk about her everyday life. That is why I read blogs - because I find other peoples lives interesting - so if you're going to blog everyday things, I say YAY! BTW, I've been searching for that post you did on wine farms (when you last came down to CPT) - could you mail me the link - we want to go check out some new places -and I know we haven't been to the ones you listed.

Ah, I also just write about our lives, and people like it that way. I love your blog, and after all, we all just have ordinary lives.

no matter what you blog update, i seriously doubt that you can be boring.

Write for you first. Obviously we'd all like to pretend we don't care what readers think, but we do. But blog for you first, readers second, and you'll be surprised how many people find the "boring" stuff awesome.

You don't have to entertain your readers. We love learning about your every day life...and that is why we love you;-D

I love the idea of printing a hardcopy of the blog. Makes for memories and that really is what blogging is about!

I also have been feeling the pressure to keep my blog updated lately. But then thought stuff it, I'll just blog when I can and when I want to. So from now on mine is also for me. And I am beginning to enjoy it again.

And I love reading about your day to day stuff and looking at your photos.
