church, braais, whales and a president.

Yip, that basically sums up our weekend...another great weekend.

Spring seems to be officially around the corner, even though we can still see snow on some of the mountains down here. Trust me it's not warm, but the sun is shining.
So, what do any good South Africans do in good weather (okay in bad too), we braai (for my American readers, that's a BBQ, but a bit different). We braaied, Friday night, Saturday night and we are braaing now. Nothing like a good ol' braai.

This morning we headed off to Church, we haven't been for a few weeks, it was so great to be back. I really love our new Church. We decided to take the long route home, too see if we could spot some whales. It is whale season here, and we love seeing them. They get really close to shore, except today. We spotted some breaching, but far into the bay. Here is a pic, see if you can spot it...

Spotting whales off Strandfontein beach...

Other big news, is that it looks like our President is going to officially step down this evening. He will be making a very rare public statement this evening. Not sure how I feel about this, I just pray that our government knows what they are doing. I do have faith that everything will work out.

Congratulations to my sister and brother-in-law, they are celebrating their six year wedding anniversary today. Well done you guys. Pop over to my brother-in-law's blog, too see how cute by little nephew Adam is.

Oh, and some even better news...I spotted some Christmas decorations in Woolworths today. Yes, so very exciting. Okay it was a tiny little shelf, but that's okay Christmas is on its way...whoohoo!

So, thats been my weekend. Hope you all had a good one.

Off to see how far the braai is.

Hi,
I'm still reading your blog, so guess that means I'm still blog-stalking! ;-) You live in such a beautiful county on a beautiful continent. One of these days I'll get to visit! I'm sure there are mixed emotions about Mbeki, but as the wife of a Zimbabwean, I certainly know how he feels about him. Such drama going on in Zim. I'm hoping someday it gets sorted out, but I don't understand African politics. Very hard for me because I seem to want to impose my American view on Africa. I've come to learn that it doesn't work the same way over there as it does over here. Anyways, we shouldn't discuss politics...your Sunday looked like a fun day. Have a good week!

Hey Kerri, well I am so glad you are! I know what you mean, African politics is very confusing, dont understand it much myself. Lets hope that this new deal in Zim works out, it has too. I must say that I do find American politics fascinating, my husband and I follow it quiet closely, like you say very different than here.
But you are right enough politics for a Sunday :-)
Thanks SO much for popping in, I really appreciate it!
Keep well.
Love
Hayley

I have a very pressing question.

Do you ever have a bad hair day? You always look so bloody fabulous and I have a sneaking suspicion you just are!

Oh, and I still need your cupcake and icing recipe chick!

Am also very excited about spring but me thinks she is playing hide n seek cos the next cold front is with us by Tuesday.....argh!

You make me long for Southern Africa! We've been back in Texas since 05 and haven't even been back for a visit in over a year... we sure do miss it! The weather, the braai- sounds wonderful to me!

I just LOVE your photos! And how cool is that you can just drive home from church and see a whale! Nothing like that here in PA. How do you pronounce Braai? (Bray?)

Hey Kylie,

Thats the one thing that connects all of us Southern Africans, a braai! Chops, potatoe salad, garlic bread, mielies. Okay I am making myself hungry now!
You need to come visit again :-)

Yip its very cool, we still get very excited to see the whales.
Okay you pronounce braai, something like this....

Hope that makes sense!

Lovely, lazy days of Summer (not so warm summer yet but we getting there)...we love to braai aswell, no. 1 because there's less mess in the house and secondly because it's just so nice :)

I second that, you do always look lovely!

I wanted to ask you, is your cupcake recipe easy? I need one, mine come out way too buttery tasting (Nigella)..also, what software do you use for your pics?

Big hugs xxx

Hey Tam,

Was just looking at your pics from Sunday, very jealous.
Thanks for the nice compliment, trust me I pic my photos VERY carefully :-)
The software for the photo's is Picasa, just downloaded it and have been playing around with it.
I will send you the cupcake recipie, its the simplest one I have found, and they always come out great!.
Have a great Braai Day tomorrow!
