When we were growing up my Mom was the queen of winning prizes. She was always winning something, mainly on the radio, but she did make it to TV once. She won things from beds to weekends away. My mother was even on that list, you know, where it does not allow you to win a prize within six weeks of winning another prize - I am not sure if they still do that - anyway my Mom was one of those ladies that was embargoed from winning.
To this day, if I am driving anywhere (in Joburg of course) and I hear "Hi, this is Cheryl from Benoni!", then I just know it's my Mom!
I, of course, never win anything! I don't even bother to enter. Until about two months ago, it was a Sunday and I was bored stiff, I had read my latest home magazine five times over so decided to enter some of their competitions, I paged through and picked out a few items and sent off the sms entries.
About three weeks later, I receive a call telling me that I had won a day bed, I have never been so delighted. I could not remember what the hell it looked like, but I had won something!
Anyway, a week later this arrives...
How stunning is this? They sell it in the shops for R7900 (about a $1000) - can you believe it? Of course we have no pool for it, so it is standing in the middle of our lounge still in the plastic...but hey, I won something!
So yesterday, I get a call from a guy congratulating me on winning a prize - huh? I remember filling in some form at a book shop about a week ago, and I won - again! Okay it's only a R150 (about $20) voucher from their store, but beggars can't be choosers and, more importantly 'I won!' .
So I reckon I might have inherited some of my Mom's lucky genes...I just needed to enter the damn competitions all a long!
